Chronic nasal congestion
Keywords: chronic nasal congestion, stuffy nose, blocked nose
AbstractNasal congestion, a “stuffy” or blocked nose, is a term that refers to the obstruction of air flow in and out of the nose. This occurs when the nasal and adjacent tissues and blood vessels become swollen with excess fluid, causing a “stuffy” feeling. It can also be accompanied by a nasal discharge or “runny” nose. Chronic nasal congestion can cause sleep-disordered breathing and fragmented sleep, reduced sleep time and quality, as well as daytime sleepiness and fatigue. It can be serious in infants, who might find it difficult to nurse or breathe as a result.
