Abstract
Scabies is a highly contagious skin infestation that is caused by a mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei. This mite is microscopic and therefore cannot be seen with the naked eye. The scabies mite can affect anyone of any age and socioeconomic status. However, it does more commonly occur in crowded conditions (such as in nursing homes or prisons), as well as in areas where there is a lack of resources.
